Help support this site and get a great photo of old Long Beach too!
Since the start of this site in July of 2000 we have had many requests for reprints of photos we have collected.  We are now able to offer you a number of nicely reproduced and digitally corrected 8" x 10" photos of Long Beach's bygone days!  We have collected these images from private collections, postcard reproductions, original glass plate negatives, magic lantern slides and Library of Congress or other government agency archives.  Many are pre-1900.  While we have corrected most all of the images to some extent for color, clarity and age damage, photography being what it was 100 years ago, some photos may have some slight blurring or some noticable grain, particularly those taken inside where people may have moved when the photographer snapped the shot or the lighting was poor.  We have noted this if it affects the photo.  These photos make great gifts too!
There are two ways you can purchase these photos, you can either mail us a check or money order or pay online with a credit card or bank transfer through Paypal.  We do prefer Paypal as it is more secure and timely.  If you are already a member of Paypal you know how it works, if not, it's a fast sign up on a secure server.   No credit card or bank info is ever sent to me, only the payment and shipping information.

If you are using Paypal, simply click the "add to my shopping cart" button and "checkout" when you are finished shopping.  You will be brought to Paypal's site.

If you would rather mail payment,  use the "Add to Cart" buttons and when you are finished, click "View Cart" but don't click "Checkout",  just print out that page and mail it with your address and payment.
SHIPPING VIA PRIORITY MAIL IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE PHOTOS.

All photos are printed from high resolution scans on acid free, archival quality Kodak Ultra Premium High Gloss photo paper (76 lb).  Most have been digitally color corrected or enhanced to remove scratches and flaws. They are better than the originals  and are much clearer and more detailed than you see here and elsewhere on the site. These black and whites look great in a dark wood (mahogany or cherry stained) frame.

Boardwalk Improvements 1937
Beautiful photo of the boardwalk reconstruction in 1937 at National Blvd.   Signs for Fascination, Skeeball and more are visible.

The Long Beach Casino
The Long Beach Casino / Tom Healy's
A great shot of the casino with old cars, police officers and guests. Constructed around 1908, reportedly using some of the bricks from the huge chimney of the Long Beach Hotel, which was consumed by fire in 1907 and was very close to this location.  The Casino stood at Long Beach Blvd and the Boardwalk. It was also destroyed by fire in the 1920's.  This photo circa 1910.

The East Veranda
The East Veranda of the Long Beach Hotel
A rare photo developed from a 120+ year old glass magic lantern slide in my collection showing the East Veranda of the Long Beach Hotel. Rocking chairs, a baby stroller and ladies relaxing on chairs are visible in the background.  Circa 1885

LB Transportation Co.
The Long Beach Post Office
A great photo of the original Post Office and general offices of Long Beach.  Also the office of the Long Beach Transportation Co. where you could get your tickets for steamers and pleasure boat rides. The exact location has not been confirmed, most reportedly it was near the Long Beach Hotel and just west of the originaltrain station.  Very nice detail for an old photo.  Circa 1890.

The Long Beach Inn circa 1908
The Long Beach Inn
Not to be confused with the Long Beach Hotel, this inn was on the east side of National Blvd at the boardwalk and many times handled the overflow from the much larger Long Beach Hotel just to the east.  A historical marker sits on National Blvd near where it existed.  It stayed in business until around 1908, when the Nassau Hotel apparently bought out the property and erected tennis courts on the site. This photo was taken about 1905. It is possible this structure was moved between 1908 and 1909 and later became the Hotel Abell as the identical structure appears in a 1910 postcard but in another location. Reportedly, it eventually burned down.  Some slight overexposure in the upper left corner could not be corrected.

The Victory Apartments

In 1938 this is what the Victory Apartments at 428 W. Broadway at Lafayette Blvd. looked like.  Workers are doing some kind of repairs or construction in a hole on Broadway.  There is a nice, very legible, advertisement painted on the side of the building for the old Lafayette Swimming Pool and Casino and some neat old cars out front.

Broadway in Long Beach
1912
This is a nice shot looking east across National Blvd from the center of Broadway.  The Nassau Hotel would be on the right side of the street.  This is very clear photo showing lots of nice old cars, a police officer directing traffic, chauffeurs and, of course, the wealthy guests heading for the Hotel Nassau.
# LB-7  8" x 10" -  $ 14.99
The Long Beach Railroad Station 1892

This was the original Railroad Station as it appeared in 1892.  In those days it was near Jackson Blvd (now Edwards) and Beech St.  A good clear photo, notice how desolate the area in the background looked!
# LB-8  8" x 10" -  $ 14.99
Beech Street and the Alabama St. Firehouse

This photo is circa 1930 and you are looking east down Beech Street from near Wyoming Ave.  The building with the tower is the old West End Firehouse, you can see the open bay doors if you look closely.  Other businesses are visible on the block along with cars and trucks.  The trolley tracks are still on the street in this year.  This photo has some minor shading variations due to the age of the original.  The building still stands today but the tower was cut down many years ago.
# LB-9   8" x 10" -  $ 14.99
The National Bathing Pavillion and Boardwalk
Great boardwalk shot, circa 1914, looking east from Magnolia Blvd.  This was scanned from the original glass plate negative taken by photographer Ambrose Fowler which was later used to produce postcards.  The bathing pavillion is in the foreground with the Hotel Nassau, with the flags, behind it.  Roller carts are on the boardwalk along with plenty of people strolling the boardwalk in their fancy clothes!
# LB-10    8" x 10" -  $ 14.99
Long Beach Coast Guard Station #90, 1921
This was the "new" station located in the area of Grand or Lindell Blvd and near the bay.  A number of US Lifesaving Stations, (prior to the Coast Guard being formed in 1915)  were located on Long Beach over the years.  Long Beach received one of the first 8 boat houses placed into service on Long Island in 1849. Very few photos of the stations remain.  This station reportedly was later moved to Atlantic Beach and may still be standing today, though it was decommissioned some time ago.

West End at Kentucky 1943
Here's a great shot from the WWII days.  From a private collection of photos. It's February 1943 and you're looking east down Beech St from Kentucky St.  Notice the lampost on the right...the ocean side has been blacked out to prevent German U-Boats from using the background lighting to target ships along the coast at night.  This is evident on the other lamposts in the actual print.  A great snowy scene from over 60 years ago! Quinn real estate, Danny's bowling alley and the old Alabama St firehouse tower are seen in the photo.  Just slightly grainy but nice detail in this cool West End photo.

Long Beach Bridge Traffic 1930's
Probably the end of a busy weekend, you're looking south toward the ocean from the roof of Grassland Oil Company on Long Beach Blvd in the late 30's.  The city garage is visible across the street along with dozens of cars stuck in traffic waiting to cross the bridge!  The old Texaco station and Granada Towers are visible along with other structures in the distance.

Early photo of St. Ignatius taken in the 1930's during a winter snow.  This photo was reproduced from a private collection and has never been published before.

Women's Suffrage Speaker / Boardwalk 1914

Circa 1914, this photo was taken at Fuller's, which used to be between National Blvd and Edwards Blvd, on the ocean side of the Boardwalk.  It became a popular gathering place for the women's suffrage movement.  In this photo an unidentified suffragette on a short platform is speaking to a crowd of well dressed people on the boardwalk.
Surf Fishing 1910

Here's a cool old shot when there were still whoppers to be had in the Long Beach surf !  These look to be Black Drum.  Probably around National Blvd and it looks like the man on the right with the apron on could be a cook...fresh fish on the menu tonight !
